First and foremost.....the book was great. It was real life...it was soooo easy to read (I absolutely hate reading). Reading this book hit home on so many levels....the personal experiences shared were tremendous. Two specific experiences brought tears to my eyes. I felt like I was standing right beside the author as he went through each experience and related the tools to do it better. It's so much easier if someone shares their own personal shortfalls in order to help you get better. These are not made up stories. Thank you Alec for your words of wisdom. I can't wait for another book!!! You make me enjoy reading!

This is a quick read that reminded me of the essential components of leadership and why they are so critical to success. The "CARE" technique described in this text is a valuable tool for people in a leadership position.
My mom always told me, “Stew, read the short books.†That led to reading great books like the One Minute Manager by Blanchard and Johnson and the 12th Angel by Og Mandino. Alec’s Care to Lead will have a similar impact. The reason most leadership books are so long is that they try to do all of the unpacking for the reader. Care to Lead ignites a thoughtful personal reflection and will start organizational conversations that should impact us all.
CARE to Lead is an easy read and presents practical and sound advice for leaders in any field of work. I particularly liked how the CARE Leadership Tools have foundation in the Golden Rule! Because of this, these tools apply to all parts of your life not just the workplace. I highly recommend this book for anyone that wants to improve any aspect of their life.
McGalliard's approach is straightforward and down to earth. He draws upon years of positive (and negative) leadership examples to formulate a very basic and practical approach to leading and influencing.A quick read that is sure to have real and lasting effect on your management style!
I found the book very easy to read with genuine insight on leadership skills. I love the simple principles, as well as the personal accounts of success and failure. I definitely recommend it!
When it came time to choose how many stars to give this book I had to think twice about it. It's better than a 4-star book but I don't know if it's really a 5-star book. In the end I gave it a 5-star rating because it is definitely better than four stars.To be upfront about this I should tell you that I received this book in exchange for a review. I accepted the book because I was curious as to what it might contain and this was a way of getting a free book on a topic that I perhaps need in order to be better at promoting/growing my own business. Self-serving but it is true.When I began reading the book I realized two things. First, it was very short and very easy to read. The print is a bit larger than some books and spaced nicely apart so I could actually go through this book rather rapidly. Even though I could do that I still took probably more time than the author wanted me to because I was actually digesting it more than just reading it.Second, he is not presenting some system that he thought up. He's sharing insight that applies to all other existing systems and makes them even better.In the beginning, as I was going through it, I was thinking this stuff is so simplistic it's kind of like he's taking something that is completely childlike in nature and putting it on paper just to get a book out to promote his own credentials. By the end of the book I completely changed my mind about that. In fact I hope he reads this review and takes it as encouragement to write another book on the care principles that he presents in this one, only instead of using it as a principal for business I believe that it would be a great benefit for those who are in relationships and perhaps even those moving forward towards marriage. I wish that I had had these lessons to take to heart prior to my own marriage. I believe my relationship with my wife could have been better had I taken these words to Heart 30+ years ago.The core lessons that Alec is presenting center around the mnemonic of C.A.R.E.CommunicationAccountabilityRelationshipsExample of Excellence.After laying his foundation, he goes into examples of how these principles are put into action, or not in some cases. I think the examples are excellent and one of them in particular really jumped out to me as perhaps the best example in the entire book. That example is what he has listed as Experience 5. It has to do with when the company he worked for hired a new president and CEO. The descriptions there really brought forth the Humanity of the people in the story. I came away wishing I had known this president and CEO.In the end, this book is worth the money, but beyond that it's worth several other follow-up books from the author and I hope he goes ahead to do that. These concepts are not business Concepts. These concepts are foundational human Concepts. And for those of you who read his book you will understand when I say ...his grandmother taught him well.
Even as the book doesn't introduce any new or groundbreaking ideas, the content, disposition as well as the way the author explains the ideas are excellent. Without giving away too much, the CARE leadership and the different components of it are very much true. Many times, it is not how new or different the leadership idea och technique is, it is how you apply it and how you can make it yours. The "CARE to lead" book gives you just that. Explains the idea and the reasoning why these components are important and follow up with real-life examples.I like that the examples are not from Google/Apple/Amazon type of grandiose leadership. Most of us are ordinary people, leading normal teams, achieving amazing results. The case studies, in my opinion, contain 50% of the book's value.The author manages to convey a valuable story, broken down in tangible and easy to understand components and end the book with case studies that are very close to a normal life of leadership.This is a book well worth reading, a relatively short and fast book to read. I recommend this book!
