About the Author
Gareth Morgan is well known for his creative contributions to management. He is the author of seven books, including Images of Organization, Creative Organization Theory, Imaginization and Riding the Waves of Change. He acts as consultant and seminar leader to numerous organizations throughout Europe and North America, and is Distinguished Research Professor at York University in Toronto. He has sat on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management, and Organization Studies; and is a Life Fellow of the International Academy of Management. Born in Wales, he now lives in Toronto with his wife, Karen and their children Evan and Heather.

Morgan's Images of Organization is a well written book. I purchased this book for a class in Adult Education, and it is remarkably interesting. The book is organized around eleven chapters and a postscript. The most interesting parts of the book are Chapters 2 through 7.CH 2: Organizations as MachinesCH 3: Organizations as OrganismsCH 4: Organizations as BrainsCH 5: Organizations as CulturesCH 6: Organizations as Political SystemsCH 7: Organizations as Psychic PrisonsThese chapters represent the majority of the material relevant to organizational theory. Anyone who wants to learn more about organizational design should read this book
Book for school
The entire book is made up of metaphors which is kind of confusing, but it will keep your mind going trying to understand what's going on and relating it back to your experiences.
This book was very informative but seemed packed with too much information and at times confusing. If my instructor had not assigned Intro to Public Administration along with this it would have been a little more difficult. Too much for a beginner.
Gareth Morgan has created a resource for global managers! The images of organization educate the reader on the eight metaphors, that, are designed to teach valuable insight on the different behaviors encountered in the workplace. This book is a well written artifact. Too bad there isn't a certifiable study guide that compacts the information for busy scholars!
This book opened my eyes to theories that have employed for a long time in industry. It provides a better understanding of organizations, their structures, and many management techniques used to make big companies successful.
This book gives key insight into contemporary rhetoric techniques that organizations use. It helps you understand the basis of a lot of beurocracy and how it works. With any book like this, you can find strong points of disagreement in their argument, but through a critical view, you can pull good points of knowledge to help form an acurate understanding of organizations as a whole.
This book is required reading in all of my organizational development courses. Best OD book ever written in my opinion.
