For our road trip to Alaska this summer we brought both this book and the Milepost. By halfway through the trip we practically never used the Milepost at all. Alaskan Camping had the information we needed, in a much easier to use format. There is a chapter covering each of the major roads in Alaska plus routes in Canada often used to reach Alaska.Where to get gas? For each chapter there is an easy to read chart with the relative gas prices (regular and diesel) for each stop along the way, with mileages.Where to stay for the night? There is a mini-map for each section of road showing the RV parks and campgrounds in that section, while the pages following gave a listing for each site listing price range, facilities, plus a description. We were able to reliably find the campsites and facilities we needed each night.What to do? Each chapter start with a description with highlights, and there are descriptions of the sites along the way. We found the list of attractions was well edited to include all those we were interested in visiting. The Milepost mentioned more attractions, but with little information to decide which were worth a visit.This trip was the trip-of-a-lifetime for us. We drove from California spending 4 weeks in Alaska, staying nights in campgrounds and RV parks all from this book. We were able to find good values with unserviced sites or fully serviced RV parks when we wanted it. If you are thinking about driving to Alaska (and you like long drives), just do it! The roads are really quite good. Just slow down (a lot) if the spruce trees are stunted (due to permafrost) and you see a rough road marker. And if your copilot loves very detailed road facts or if you don't have enough common sense to use care on steep grades or sharp curves and need red print in a book to tell you to be careful, by all means get the Milepost as well.Have a great adventure, we did!

I lived there for 8 years and we camped a lot. We took this book (older edition) with every time, weather we planned a specific trip or winged it. I recommend keeping notes on which sites and spots are better to stay in for future reference. There are hundreds of site I never knew were there because of this book. It also helps you plan on where to get water and dump at so you do not have to drive 400 miles with full tanks.I loaned this book out countless times too. I would call it a must. There is nothing worse then planning to stop at a site to find out there are full. Well with this you can find the next site, or maybe reserve your spot.

We have an older addition. We spent years living in Alaska and all of them enjoying the great out doors of what is truly the last frontier. This book was amazing to have with when plans changed, or when we took the time to really plan a long or short trip. I would say to anyone who plans to camp in Alaska to get this book, bring it with you each and every time.We would pencil in the best spots in each campground we stopped at so we would know which ones to try for next time. Or to tell frineds to try for. It also helps you with where to dump or get water so you dont have to bring all that extra weight on your long trip.

So, wife and I did an 8000 mile road trip in the car in exactly 14 days from Minneapolis to Alaska and back. This book helped us find camping spots. You also should use the MilePost book if you are going on this same road trip. This trip was the best road trip I've ever taken and I've been to every State in the US, all of Canada, most of Mexico and many foreign countries.

I bought this for a recent Alaska vacation in a rented driving camper. This book was absolutely indispensible. It informed us of campgrounds we would never have known to look for without it. It saved us probaly $50 in just one week of use by making us aware of free dump stations and campsites as well as great info on all campgrounds. Very practical and informative. It pointed us to campgrounds where we could fish on the river/stream, which was awesome. We enjoyed our vacation more because of this book. I think Trailer Life ought to hire these guys to help upgrade their directory to the things that really matter to us Rvers.

We just came back from a 75 day trip to Alaska by truck camper. Up the Alaska Highway, detour to Dawson, down the Top of The World Highway to Tok, on to Fairbanks, then done to the Kenai Peninsula and back home via more Alaska highway and the Cassiar. The Layout of the book allows for quick access to all the info you need to travel any of these roads and many more. Frankly I don't need to know what is on every mile- i'll look out the window- and besides most of the miles are empty way up north. Overall this is the one book you need and can rely on to have a great Alaska trip.

Still two weeks to finals. Still reading this series. However, my computer went down again, so I will be saving #7 for after finals.This one gets 4 stars only because I was upset about Jasper. You will be too. Recommended, even as a stand alone book.

I am now on the eighth book of the Joe Dillard series. Blood Money and all of the Joe Dillard series I will give 5 stars. I have not enjoyed reading this much in a long time. For me enjoyable reading, the plot and characters must be believable and probable. These books fits this criteria. Another thing about I love about these novels is that that most of these books are under 300 pages. Scott Pratt knows how to write a story that is concise, gets to the point, yet entertains. I would suggest that someone start from book number one, this allows for the reader to feel he has an intimate relationship with the Dillard family. Pratt is able to tell a story with surrounding subplots and bring the whole thing together in a surprising ending. My only criticism, and this might be a bit obtuse, is that he seems to be slightly obsessed with height in the descriptions of his characters. His " good guys" are described as tall, lean, athletic, attractive, while his "bad guys" or insignificant characters are described as short, fat, and unattractive. Just my observation.

I have always enjoyed Scott Pratt's writing and plot development. This is the 7th of his books I have read, and the 6th in the Joe Dillard series. I think I have rated all previous books 5 star, but could not quite go there with this book. I almost gave it a 3 star, but decided it was at least better than a 3 and I did enjoy the book.My issue with this book is primarily that the ending was pretty predictable. There were some twist and turns along the way, but you know early on how this thing is going to turn out. Plus the romantic angle was too predictable and too sappy. And finally, there was a subplot about a murder defendant that Joe was defending that was really given the short shrift. I thought that it could have been the main storyline of a stand alone book.If you are a Scott Pratt/Joe Dillard fan I think you will enjoy the book. If you have not read Scott Pratt/Joe Dillard books before, I suggest you don't read this one first as you might not come back.

Great book. Well developed story with intriguing characters and plot. Actually, a rewrite of Pratt's earlier novel RUSSO'S GOLD which I thoroughly enjoyed, many gaps and further development in areas make this the best in the Dillard stories yet. If you are a fan of Scott Pratt you will love this book, and if you have never read his work before, I can guarantee you will be a fan by the time you are partway through this book. It is book 6 in a series but it is a stand alone story of Joe Dillard and it is not a necessity to have read 1-5 to jump into Blood Money. Get ready to sit back for five or six hours once you start....you won't want to put it down.

Just finished my 6th Scott Pratt Joe Dillard series and have started the 7th. Ditto to earlier reviews. What strikes me is the heart of the author comes through in so many ways. He has to be a fine man to create the characters he does. He builds the relationships between the characters and the readers. I've been brought to surprising tears (I do not cry over books or movies...usually) more than once. Each book has grabbed me. I did feel the 6th book was a departure somehow and the difference I detected was putting me off at first, but I stayed with it and of course by the end was totally hooked. I've got other books by other favorite authors waiting in my Kindle, but I keep buying and reading the next Scott Pratt. Thanks for keeping me entertained...it ain't easy! This is another winner from Scott Pratt. I am in the process of reading the entire series and am now buying the next book, on my Kindle, as soon as I finish the one I was reading. The books just keep getting better and better and I think it is because the characters are becoming better developed as time goes on. I love Joe Dillard who is so real that I feel as though I know him. In this book, the author introduces a new character, Charleston Storey (Charlie) a young woman lawyer who practices with Joe for a short time. It is her story and the results of her decisions that drive the plot in this book. As with the other books in the series, this is another roller coaster ride and I loved the ending (no spoilers here).Buy the book; buy the series and begin with book one. You will be hooked on the handsome Joe Dillard and his family and friends.

This man knows how to grab you with his words and pull you into his very believable stories! He is a master of mystery and has a sense of integrity that makes his books very easy to read. He doesn't rely on profanity or lots of blood and guts to fill his pages but his wonderful weaving of the story gets you and won't let go. You certainly connect with the characters that are very believable and next thing you know you are in the story going right along with them. He is amazing in the way he brings you in, gets your feet wet and then GOTCHA, you can't put the book down, you are invested in their anguish and struggle for right to prevail. I just love this authors' work, he is a favorite read anytime.

Another terrific addition to this series. While it started a little slow, it quickly picked up speed as things were revealed. Among the topics touched upon within the plot: murder, rape, police coverups, gangland style retribution and hillbilly justice. Quite a list for one book.The main characters are well defined and generally upstanding likeable good people. The villains are vicious with few redeemable qualities. . Definitely structured as good vs evil within many cultural contexts.Once you start this, you won’t want to stop. Some of the plot points are foreseeable. But that is forgiven in the overall pleasure of the read.

This came up about a month ago and that cover was enticing. Yuri Is My Job! gets off to a good start and it played with my expectations in a pleasant way. We start with Hime, a high school student. Unlike the typical sweet but confused yuri protagonist, she's not always a nice person. Her chief school ambition is to be cute and popular and long term, she wants to be a rich man's trophy wife (I imagine Hime would make a women's studies professor want to jump out of a window). A set of circumstances leaves her obliged to work at a theme cafe where the waitresses pose as private school students. Hime soon finds herself on the wrong foot with Mitsuki, a senior student/waitress, but the manager thinks it would help the cafe if they became schwesters, an upper and lower class pair bonded like sisters. It's not fun for Hime as Mitsuki is a regular drill sergeant. Hime's friend Kanoko is also pressed into service at the cafe. There is Sumika , another upper class waitress and Mai, the manager. One can feel sorry for Hime, as she is in a job where she really doesn't understand things but can also dislike her relentless, calculated cuteness. Mitsuki seems to be someone who will have quite a backstory, and Kanoko is a likeable character. Yuri Is My Job! lived up to the hopes I had for it and it will be interesting to see how the series develops. Yuri fans might have a new series well worth following.

I've read many yuri mangas, but Yuri is my job seems to have the best plot so far! I love the characters and their different facades that they put on. It makes the story very interesting and funny. I really enjoyed it! I can't wait to see what Hime-chan gets into next!
