WARNING: The paperback edition is not the same as the hardback edition. They really shouldn't be listed together. The paperback edition has a big sign on the back of the book stating, "This is a special version of a textbook widely used by universities throughout the world. Pearson published this edition for the benefit of students outside the United States and Canada. If you purchased this book within the United States or Canada it has been imported without the approval or permission of the Publisher, and it does not include all of the same Problems." The Amazon product description did not disclose these important differences, and none of the third-party sellers seem to disclose this difference. As a result, I purchased the book, and it turned out my son couldn't use it for his class because, according to his Physics teacher, eight of the problem sets are different. Argh.

I used this book for two semesters of physics; I didn't like it. I found the explanations lacking and non-intuitive, and not many tips how to solve problems, but also the equations are not listed clearly. I found my self going on youtube and reading knight-jones-field college physics book as a supplement just to figure out what the book was trying to say.To give an example of why I didn't like this book: In chapter 22 under Energy in EM waves, the author makes zero attempt to help you understand notation. I had no clue what a rms value was. Only after looking online did I find out that if you use the rms valuesthe S ----> S(avg).

This is the physics book that a relative is currently using in his high school, and it is absolutely terrible. I often have to help him, and this book always leaves me scratching my head at how they get from point A to point B. I am no lightweight, either. I got straight A's in physics when I was in high school, and passed the AP exam, and I am a teacher now. If I am struggling so much, that means there is something wrong.Each section starts out with lots of background text, aka fluff that isn't going to help at all with grasping the concepts. Unfortunately, this background sometimes goes right in to the descriptions of formulae and the concepts of the lesson, so it is difficult to skip. Luckily, the formulae are in bold, so they are at least easy to see on the page. But you have to read through the text to understand what they mean, and the text is so poorly written that you often have to read through over and over again just to wrap your head around the formula and what they are trying to say about it.This brings me to the example problems. For what they are, they are fine, and they often make the concepts easier to understand than the actual lesson. So I have no real complaints about the examples that are included. They are just sorely inadequate, which I will explain next.The real glaring problem with this physics course is the problems that students have to do. They take the basic concepts (which students probably didn't even fully grasp in the first place because the lessons are so poorly done), and escalate them to impossible levels. It's fine to ask students to think outside the box, but asking them to think outside the box without anything similar even mentioned in the lesson, almost no information given, and having to combine formulae in crazy ways is just absurd. The book does not prepare them for that in any way. It's like learning to swim in a pool (the lesson) and then being thrown into the middle of the ocean while a storm is raging (the problems). One problem that still sticks out to me asks the student to calculate the Bernoulli forces on a house with a flat roof of given area in a certain speed wind (no information besides flat roof, roof area, and wind speed). The problem was, the lesson had not even gotten close to explaining that kind of thing. It had briefly mentioned Bernoulli forces on airplane wings and spheres, but all of it was about pressure and different flow rates. There wasn't even a suggestion about calculating forces with only one flow rate. And there were lots of other problems with the same problem. I have eventually been able to figure out most of them by careful reading and creative combinations of formulae, but not all. And the amount of effort that these problems required of me, someone who has already learned and understood this stuff and who wrestles with math formulae pretty frequently, is just absurd. If these problems are so difficult for me to do, imagine how much worse they must be for the students who have never done it before.I do not recommend this book. If you are a teacher, homeschooler, administrator, school board, or anyone else choosing curriculum and trying to do well by their students, do not select this book. It is a horrible excuse for a learning resource, and will only set students up for failure and disillusionment with science. A great teacher may be able to compensate for some of this, but don't rely on that. And if the teaching is great, how much better will students learn if they also have a great book. So go and find that great book. Do not buy this!

I needed a text to review physics in preparation for the state licensing exam. I went online to find reviews and Giancoli was the top rated for non calculus based AP physics. I also used Holt and Cutnell and Johnson. I found Giancoli to be the best of them. Concepts are fully explained with no corners cut. Towards the end of chapters they often have real world application examples. There are many problems that get systematically more difficult and are rated by difficulty so that it is easy to find beginner, intermediate and advanced problems. Solutions are provided for the odd numbered problems.I tutor so I generally use the book that the student's class is using. I find that I frequently turn to Giancoli for better problems and clearer examples to show the students. It is the best non-calculus text I have seen. I suppose the best indicator is that I enjoy using it. I don't find myself on guard for the next mistake or poor explanation or missing link in the thought chain. It is a pleasure to use.I found the other books lacking. Holt seemed to be a template to push teachers to purchase products and services. It is somewhat like Windows 8. It is clearly a product of too many MBAs and not enough educators. I am still trying to understand the appeal of Cutnell and Johnson. I find it has holes in the progression of the topic. It does not have the rigor of Giancoli.Regarding Hewitt and Halliday and Resnick. Hewitt deserves its fame as a great conceptual physics book. However I would like to see more problems included.I learned physics from the second edition of Halliday and Resnick. I recently used the 7th edition while working with a student. I am still getting to know this edition. What I like is that it is detailed and certainly has better and more examples than what I learned on. It also has more photos and color photos - a vast improvement :) So far so good. I will do a detailed comment on it after I have had more time.

This textbook was a lifesaver. My school uses a REALLY bad textbook. You should probably take calculus if you are using this textbook. Yes, you don't need it, but I thought the concepts were easier to grasp because of calculus. (although it just might be because I hate algebra's long methods as opposed to easy calc) Idk, but this saved me on every exam.

First of all, I’m estimating the Kindle edition of the book on iPad, neither the text nor the method itself. Next, while I’m still reading and trying to shape my attitude towards things described in the book, I must note that the illustrations in the Kindle version on iPad look awkward. It’s just impossible to use them in the Kindle app on my 12” iPad Pro. Just take a look at the attached picture: oversized images of bullets in samples make the samples impossible to read and understand.

I watch a lot of video tutorials and one day one of my favorite personalities mentioned this new thing they were doing to stay organized. I thought, "hmm...that's interesting" and then moved on. Then in May I started to realize that my memory was not what it used to be and I needed help. I have tried calendars and they never gave me the functionality that I wanted. In the meantime, my video feed was becoming lousy with Bullet Journal tutorials. I thought, "Why not?"At that point I invested in a notebook and started to "Bullet Journal" as I understood it. It worked but I was sure there was more to it than I was getting out of it. I loved the flexibility and creativity of what I was doing. So I signed up for the author's website and he sent me the first two chapters to read. I was hooked. I am currently still working my way through the book but I have learned enough to know that I am not getting the full functionality and intention out of it. I have begun to realize reading this book that I have lost myself and the dreams I once had. Which is why I would recommend this book to everyone I know.I am already a stationary geek and love the feel of a pen on paper. I have ordered a new journal and am determined to give the original method due diligence to get the most out of life. The book is very attractive with the black and gold and a great size to carry around. There are a lot of real life instances of how bullet journals have helped others, including the author. If you are really visual, there are great diagrams to follow. And as others have stated, it works with you no matter where you are at. Or at least it seems to overall.

Wow! I purchased this book to learn more about the method of bullet journaling, like how to mark a task vs an event, how to migrate tasks, etc., but let’s face it, it’s not really that hard and you can learn that from a website. To my surprise, the author shared so much wisdom about LIFE! I learned about decluttering my mind and focusing on what matters. He backs up his points with data (handwriting helps retention) and shares insights from many great minds like Malcolm Gladwell, Angela Duckworth, or proven principles like LEAN methodology. This is not just some warm, fuzzy book. It has practical and insightful advice.

The method is great, don't get me wrong. However I feel like the book repeats itself up to that point with stories about why you should BuJo and basic descriptions of the components of BuJo. I bought the book because I was interested in applying the method, and not every nitty gritty detail. I wouldn't mind those items later on in the book, but the first thing I hoped this book would tell me to do is get a journal and start organizing these concepts and explain on the way why.

Buy the book! Not the kindle version. I love Ryder’s system and the book is fantastic, however the kindle edition is all over the place. The example are impossible to read in the e-book. I am gonna to purchase the book edition but I am really sad that I cannot just read it from my e-book library.

I'm sorry but this book isn't what I was expecting. As someone who's been bullet journaling for two years I was really hoping on getting nice insights into how to get more out of the bullet journal method.It actually ended up being more of a self-help style book where I'm told about how to achieve goals, be a kinder person, share gratitude, and a whole bunch of things that, although "nice", weren't the reason why I bought the book.

I love Ryder's work, but the formatting of the Kindle edition is pretty bad. I have ordered a print copy of the book. Wish I could return the Kindle version for a refund but for some reason Amazon is not letting me do so.UPDATE: I contacted Amazon support and they let me return the Kindle version. Print version should be here in a couple of days.

This book seems to be more about the author’s philosophy than the deeper dive into methods that I expected. The book actually convinced me to go back to pure digital. Still, congrats on the entrepreneurial effort. A lot of people really enjoy their BuJo. It’s good to see the creator getting a commercial benefit.

Lovely and haunting at the same time. The generational events that shape Hannah's life come home to roost on hers. The lies believed and told are passed down like genetics embedded in Hannah's DNA. When her daughter needs clarity at a turning point in her life Hannah steps up and reveals everything no matter the consequences so the past mistakes are not revisited on the next generation.This story is a lovely escape into the lives of mountain people and the mindset of quiet living and loving families. Seeing why maybe some families might want to remain closed to the outside world. The descriptions of the area and pace of the book are perfect. I couldn't put it down. I loved the ending. I think you will too.

really???IF (as the story portrays) a child is raised with this kind of love; would it follow that this child could be angry when finding out about the circumstances that brought her into this fortunate situation? …As opposed to questioning the motives; it would seem more appropriate that she be thankful or at least respectful!(and) A bit to much emotionnal repetition.BUT, a good storyline, nicely edited & well written.

I hardly ever give a book five stars so one can gather that I really liked it. From the beginning I was hooked. Here is what I liked. The story is told in the first person and there is one main character with a cast of supporting characters. The book was realistic in that everything was believable and could actually happen. I liked the depth of love the characters had for each other and I am not talking about romantic love or romp in the hay type of love. There was not one sex scene and this was refreshing. The main character was a woman of strength, love and ethics who made some good choices and some bad ones. The bad ones came back to bite her but who among us has not had that happen? She experienced things that not too many young people have to experience, yet she landed on her feet every time. I truly enjoyed that there was not a duel timeline as is the genre of choice, now. Often the books I have read lately go like this... Character buys or finds an item. Character must find out more about said item. Flashback several decades and another character has the item... Flash forward. The original character uses said item to insure a happy ending. I like that this book is one character and it involves one generation. If anyone deserved the luxury of going crazy, it might have been this woman but she demonstrates the ability to adapt and make lemonade out of a life of lemons.

At first I thought, this is the saddest story I have ever read. But the progression of life in all its glory and messiness started to shine through. Liam is right. Sometimes there are not clear cut rules for life. Well done. Just read it. I do not want to give anything away. You will not be sorry.

After grandfather's passing during her last year of school, she delayed college for a year to care for her ill grandmother. Consequences, both good and bad are an integral part of our existence and what make up the fabric of our souls moral fiber. That's what Hannah, the main character of this novel, taught me. Hannah was far from perfect but even she recognized that her choices required a delayed payment and the courage to finally acknowledge her debt.

Although it is not a sob story, be warned as you may need a good supply of Kleenex :)This book is now going on "my favorites" list, it's captivating and touching and simply wonderful!Hannah' story shows both the strength and the vulnerability of the human nature. Is doing "the right thing" without consequences? Is avoiding hurting the loved ones worth the sacrifice? Does the "right thing" always guarantee a happy ending? Hannah's choices seem easy given the circumstances, but are they?One thing that is so clear throughout the story is the love of family, both received and given. The lessons prior generations give us should not be taken for granted. The partial truth is sometimes the best answer, even if just for the moment.I also liked the unexpected twists in the story. Many novels are more or less predictable on "what's next" or "why", but this one had quite a few surprises.If that place is real, I wish some day I can see it with my own eyes.

but it can't and we can't always live by the rules that have been put in place by our society. Excellent portraits of the main characters.......especially Hannah. Should you have such decisions to make......what would you (or I) have done in the same situation? Is it possible to go back and remember how one's own mind and heart made decisions while still a teen? If you tend to be a right is right and wrong is wrong type you may not enjoy this book. Very well written, easy to read and pulls you forward. Didn't put it down until I had finished at 3:45 a.m.
