My 5-year old son started the Kumon math series when he turned just 4. We started from the Numbers 1-120 book and since my son already knew how to count to 100, it was a breeze and we started the "Simple Addition" right after. He then moved on to "Addition" and "Simple Subtraction". He is now 5 years and 4 months and he is in "Addition, Speed&Accuracy" and "Subtraction".In general, I like Kumon-series of early math books. For example, "Numbers 1-30" is a great book to introduce numbers/counting, and "simple addition" is a good one to introduce addition, and so on. To avoid boredom (I see many reviewers say this is "too easy"), my personal opinion for is to start as early as possible. For books recommended for "2-3-4" and "3-4-5", start as soon as your child turns 2 or 3, respectively. For books recommended for "4-5-6" and older, you can even start 1/2 or 1 year earlier than the recommended age range. The key is to complete the earlier books in the same series such as Numbers 1-30 and Numbers 1-120 and Simple Addition (consider them "prerequisites"), and your child will be ready for this one. Also, the first a few pages of this book IS backward-counting which is a nice way to introduce "minus one" and my son did not feel intimidated by starting a "new skill".

I am a fan of the Kumon workbooks. The paper is always high quality for lots of erasing, the problems are challenging enough for my 1st grader but not too difficult to cause frustration. He enjoys the repetition. The illustrations are very basic but cute enough keep a child’s interest.

We have used many Kumon practice books over the last year and this is another winner. Our daughter will begin first grade this fall, and I've been using this book over the summer to reinforce the concept of subtraction. The book helps young children learn how to subtract the numbers 1 through 5 from whole numbers up to 20.It is organized in an incremental format, beginning with tracing activities, i.e. tracing 1 to 20 and 20 to 1; joining the dots practice which is fun; and, drill type exercises. The drill type exercises can get repetitive and tedious so I would suggest using them according to your child's tolerance level (we managed four pages a day) so that boredom does not set in. Other than that, this is a good learning/practice resource for simple subtraction. I'd also recommend these other Math titles in the Kumon series for those entering First Grade:Grade 1 AdditionGrade 1 SubtractionGrade 1 Word ProblemsGeometry and Measurement Grade 1

The book does its job in teaching subtraction, but it takes a lot of concentration from my son to work on it just because there is absolutely no diversity in tasks. My son gets bored with it very quick

My 5 year old is using this and it is perfect for teaching him the basic concepts of subtractions. Like with all Kumon books, it introduces new concepts slowly and does a great job with teaching through repetition.

The Kumon math books are great...our five year old's math skills have soared. I recommend all Kumon books for parents wanting an extra and unique challenge for their kids that thinks a little "outside the box" of typical American academics. It's a known fact that kids can learn numbers well before they can learn letters, but most American schools (and families) focus so much on reading and writing at an early age. I think we're doing it wrong. The ase with which my daughter can do these Kumon books has convinced me of this.

Great book

My son finished this book right before starting 2nd grade and found that he was right in line with what his class was learning. He felt confident and accomplished. These books are very easy to use and we mix and match them with other learning materials. There is a certificate of achievement at the end of the workbook for your child. My child just loves to collect the certificates and we reward him with a small toy or a day of fun etc... The positive reinforcement works like a charm. I'm glad to see that Kumon is creating more workbooks for older children. We will definitely continue with this series.

 When my late son was a little boy, he loved TMNTs. When I would read to him at bedtime and later, when he was reading to himself, he would invariably choose one of the TMNTs comic books. Because I was the type of parent who got involved with what my kids read and watched, I also became a big fan. When I saw that an adult coloring book was available, I bought it immediately. My grandson is now getting into TMNTs and I will love coloring this book to give to him. I'm getting a second copy to hold onto for him to color in when he gets a little bit older as well.The coloring book has 47 pages of designs (not including the title page which can also be colored.) It appears like the designs have been done by a group of artists as there are several distinct styles from clean, black lines to an almost pointillism, old-style comic book dot style. The designs are fun and easy to color but some have a lot of black accents. The designs are of both the old-style and the newer style TMNTs.Another fun part of the book is that on the back of the preceding page (directly opposite the design) is a quote that meshes great with the design you are coloring. After coloring in this book, all I can say is Cowabunga!This is what I found while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring mediums. I will list the coloring mediums I used for testing in the comments section below. These are also the materials I use for most of my coloring.47 Designs (plus title page) of TMNTs funPrinted on one side of the page with a quote on the back of the pagePaper is heavyweight, white, slightly rough, non-perforatedGlue BoundMost designs merge into the binding areaBook opens fairly flat for coloring by breaking or creasing the spine heavily.Alcohol-based markers bleed through the paper. I suggest using a blotter page of card stock or several sheets of paper to keep ink from seeping through to the pages below.Water-based markers, gel pens, and India ink pens do not bleed through the paper.Colored pencils work very well with this paper. I got great pigment from oil and wax base pencils. I was able to layer the same color for deeper pigment, layer multiple colors, and blend easily using a pencil style stick blender.

I have been a fan of TMNT pretty much my entire life. When I saw this book, I had to order it. The paper is decent quality, holding up even to Crayola markers with minimal shadowing on the reverse side. There's a good mix of art styles and patterns. The only reason this book loses a star is because of the binding. The glue is rather weak. Pages are already coming out. I've tried to reattach them with a glue stick and hope. I would gladly purchase this book again if it were re-issued with a sewn binding.

I bought this coloring book for a friend who loves the TMNTs and now upon seeing the coloring book I have decided that I really need this one for myself!The pages are technically single sided. I say technically because on the back side there are a few words to tell you about the next page to color, but that is it. The paper is a good thickness and if you don't mind chancing bleed through to ruin the side with the words I think you could use marker on the pages. However, I would still put a page between the two just in case you use a heavier bleed through marker - such as a sharpie.The pictures to color take up the entire page. And they all differ. Some of them have a bit more of a blurry quality to the lines, while others have lines that are much more crisp. You can also tell that there is a good mixture between the newer Turtles and the older Turtles portrayed in this coloring book.All in all, this is a great coloring book!!

It has all the different series of turtles beginning with the comics all the way to the current lame Nickelodeon ones. It's pretty fun to color them.

My boyfriend loves TMNT, and ESPECIALLY the old-school style that he grew up with. He likes coloring to calm himself down so when I got him this book, he thought it was totally radical. The illustrations are sharp, accurate, and easy to color.

Book falls apart. Pages fall out. Replaced two books and both books pages fall out. Awesome thick paper. Illustrations are great! The only down fall is the book falls apart. I have a few other books from this maker and they don't fall apart. Just this ninja turtles one.

The old school images are great but they also have images in there that are not old school and I mean old school by the cartoon series from the late 80s to early 90s anything above that it's not old school

I bought this for my husband he loved it. The only problem was that it is not completely old school. There are some with new turtles in it.

This a charming and entertaining book, filled with great recipes (many from elegant resort hotels). There are recipes for all skill levels - from the simple (and yummy) to the complex (and delicious). Foods that might be considered traditional in America are presented with flair. However, the book focuses much more on wonderful, unfamiliar (to us), combinations of foods from around the world. You can try Native American breakfasts, Asian rice dishes, Mexican breakfast soup, and Indian Lentil-Rice Cakes with Curried Potato, to name only a few. Many of these dishes would be just as suitable for a light supper as for breakfast. Just writing this review makes me want to run to the kitchen and prepare something - I think I will! I purchased this book used, as it is currently out of print. If you can find a copy, buy one!
